VOLUNTEER TO HELP MAKE YORK PLAYS 2025 HAPPEN

Are you in for the long haul? We need volunteers in multiple positions who are able to commit to attending for the entire performance day. All volunteers will be able to see all the plays, but you’ll do so while helping the plays happen.

IMPORTANT!!!: All of the positions below require volunteers to commit to showing up at 5:45am on the BURWASH QUAD at the UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO (find us at 93 Charles Street, just east of the Bader Theatre), on Saturday June 7, and then staying as late as 12:45am — AND to the possibility of doing the same, if necessary, on Sunday June 8 instead (in case it rains on the 7th!). If you can’t reliably attend for your full time-slot on BOTH days (we’ll only need you for one, but we need you to be available for both), please do not volunteer. Everyone who does volunteer is also responsible for taking care of themselves — ensuring they are taking adequate breaks, and ensuring another volunteer can cover their duties while they are on break.

OUR ALL-DAY VOLUNTEER TEAM SO FAR

General Manager (GM): Matt Sergi
The GM will oversee and organize the entire production process, from the beginnings in 2022 through to the end in 2025.

Production Stage Manager (PSM): Dawn Nearing
The PSM will take charge in the week of the performance, making sure everyone and everything is in the right place at the right time, and will run and call the show itself.

Assistant Stage Managers (ASMs)
The ASMs will each be positioned at a different strategic location during the performance, and will take orders directly from the PSM, while timing each performance, in order to make sure every play proceeds from station to station in its allotted time, and to help the PSM and GM solve any problems as they arise.

ASM, Station 1: KJ Burzymowski
ASM, Station 2: Kat Litavski
ASM, Station 3: Kyra Kumar
ASM, Set-Up Station: Arin Klein
ASM, Alternate/Traveling 1: Qilin Yu
ASM, Alternate/Traveling 2: Alison Pascale

Volunteer Manager (VM): Savannah Lollo
The VM will keep tabs on, and direct, the many volunteer putters, waits, and others who appear and disappear throughout the day, making sure they get where they need to go.

Safety Coordinator (SC): We still have no one signed up for this position! Please contact us to volunteer.
We’re looking for one volunteer with EMT or other medical training to fill this role.
The SC will have a special table and seat of honour and table at Station 2, equipped with a first aid kit, in case any attendees need basic medical attention; the SC will also be in charge of calling any emergency services for attendees should they be needed.

Assistant Videographers (AVs)
The AVs will assist our head videographer, Dennis Jerz, in collecting video footage of the event and in maintaining and guarding video equipment — taking turns throughout the day to make sure that multiple repetitions of each play get documented, but also that each AV gets a chance to watch most of the plays without a camera, too.

AV 1: We still have no one signed up for this position! Please contact us to volunteer.
AV 2: We still have no one signed up for this position! Please contact us to volunteer.
AV 3: We still have no one signed up for this position! Please contact us to volunteer.

Wandering Guides (WGs)
The WGs will be available to greet and guide the audience and help them directly, telling them what’s going on and how to get what they may need, where the signage we’ve posted isn’t enough. The WGs will also be responsible for posting signage at the beginning of the performance day, for checking in on and troubleshooting the various non-performance items that we’ll have set up (water station, vendor tables, etc), and for helping audience members in need (each WG will be given a pack with first aid supplies, water, and a flashlight). The WGs will also provide support to the Victoria College security staff and to the GM and PSM by identifying any problems that might arise among the audience and reporting it as needed. We will provide the WGs with handouts, signs, placards that have helpful QR codes, and more.
